Life Events

Life events at our Church are varied and include baptisms, weddings, funerals and other celebrations. Baptisms usually involve a ritual blessed water and a blessing from the Church. Weddings are a time for family and friends to join the couple in a formal ceremony, which is usually conducted by a priest. Funerals are a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate the life of the deceased. Other events at the Church include special services and events such as Harvest Festival, Easter, Christmas and other religious festivals. The church is also a place to come together in times of joy and sorrow, to give thanks and to pray for each other.

Weddings

Our church is a beautiful setting for a wedding, and everyone who lives in the Parish has a right to be married in St John's Church.  If you live elsewhere but have connections with the Church – through family or past contact-you may be able to marry here also.

If you are thinking of getting married in St John's Marchington Woodlands, please get in touch with our Area Coordinator who will be very pleased to answer any questions you may have.

Christenings

Any child who lives within the Parish of St John's can be baptised in our church.  If you have a connection with St John's but live elsewhere, then you should seek the consent of your local Vicar. During a christening your child will be baptised with water. Its the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your friends and family. You don't have to have been christened yourself, and you don't have to have been a regular churchgoer

Our baptisms are great fun – but extremely serious! It is a big commitment. By bringing your child to baptism, you are making the statement that you wish him or her to follow the way of Jesus Christ and to begin a journey of faith that we hope will continue for all of their life.  You and the godparents will be making some important promises and commitments on your child’s behalf – but the promises include you, too!

Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others. A christening is just the beginning of this and so much more. Over the years to come, it’s a journey you’ll share together

Funerals

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral led by a Church of England minister can be held in church, in a churchyard, by a graveside, or at a crematorium. The minister will be there to support you every step of the way.
